South African fast food chain Wimpy made this fantastic video about a promotion they did around their new braille menus. I dare you not to smile watching the reactions of the people reading their food.

I just finished watching this short documentary on the two kinds of golf in Mumbai, India. It’s a great story told in a distinct, heavily processed visual style. I love the use of color, fast cuts and slow and fast motion. Kudos ESPN for shaking things up visually!

Filter Five produced a short video for Public Services International on the massive demonstration in London March 26th 2011 where hundreds of thousands of people protested cuts to public services. It was a pleasure working with PSI (as usual!).

The BBC series “Planet Earth” and “Life” are in my opinion some of the best television ever produced. The BBC started airing their latest series, “Human Planet” last week. Photographer Timothy Allen visited the crews working in 40 different countries. BBC News produced an audio slideshow of some of his images here.

1 – Keep it “bite-sized” in length.

I’m kicking off the blog with a short film on the photographer behind the fashion blog  “The Sartorialist”.  It’s a wonderful 7 minutes in which Scott Schuman talks about what inspires his work, the world of fashion and the connected, ever shrinking digital world we live in.  It was sponsored by Intel as part of their Visual Life campaign.

What makes this video “pop” for me?

- The Perfect length. 7 minutes is just right for this film.  Long enough to have substance but not so long that I won’t move on.

- It’s Well Done. It’s well shot, cut and produced.  It’s a beautiful short piece and kudos to the crew behind it for the high production value and vision.

- It Tells a Story. The Sartorialist is one of the most influential fashion blogs out there, with nearly 70,000 hits a day (according to the information in the Youtube video).  I am a casual reader myself so I wanted to learn more about the man behind the camera.  Having Mr. Schuman tell his story in his own words provided a natural narrative that was both personal and effective.
